On Instagram I posted a graphic that simply said “Make Prayer Personal.” We all know that prayer is essential as a believer; prayer is the one thing that keeps us in communication with the Lord. It is a gift, honor, and privilege to be able to communicate with God and not be at risk of His wrath. Before Jesus walked the earth there were only a select few who had access to the throne room of God. You had to be a man of the cloth, a man who was chosen by God and respected in your community to approach the throne room of God. Even with having the permission and privilege to enter you still could not enter alone, you had to make sacrifices. Where you would have to physically kill a pure animal or piece of cattle before entering into the throne room of God.

But Jesus…when he came he changed the whole GAME, He came and set the record straight for all of us. His obedience on the cross gave us access to Father God, His YES tore the VEIL of separation. Matthew 27: 51 says: “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.” You and I now have access to God — we no longer have to have it all together before we go to Him.

Perfection is not needed when you enter into prayer and communion with God. Willingness, vulnerability, and trust is absolutely necessary. Prayer for me reminds me who I am, reminds me of my humanity, and God’s sovereignty. Communicating with God helps to reset and refocus my heart and mind on what really matters. We all are called to pray for others around us, and those that He lays on our heart. But, I believe that we have to first know that He cares for us personally. When we understand that truth we will pray with more power and fervor because we have confidence in God and his ability to transform the hearts of those we pray for. God loves us so much and I believe He wants us to incorporate that same love into the daily prayers we pray.

This week, I want to encourage you to Make Prayer Personal, take out time intentionally pray and communicate with the Lord. Remember the time does not have to be super long; it simply needs to be filled with pure motives and sincerity, and I promise you that God will meet you there. He will meet you in the middle and do what only He can do!
